My second group project for boot camp was to redesign a non-profit website and we chose No Dog Left Behind. No Dog Left Behind is an organization dedicated to finding forever families for dogs and protecting and advocating for abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs. The team consisted of three designers and the project took place over three weeks. I assisted in user research, storyboarding, and user testing.
No Dog Left Behind is a non-profit organization dedicated to the fostering and adoption of dogs in need. Their website is intended to be a source of information for sheltering and adopting dogs; however, it fails to effectively showcase dogs available for adoption or seeking foster homes. The way it presents information requires improvement both in terms of content organization and visual appeal to generate greater interest and compassion for the cause.
Our group wanted to redesign No Dog Left Behind’s website so that it showcases the organization’s mission, equally highlighting the importance of fostering, adopting, and volunteering. Additionally, we wanted the website’s visual aesthetics to be enhanced to spark user interest and compassion to increase user interaction.
Locating forever homes for dogs is the primary purpose of No Dog Left Behind. Our redesign aimed to streamline this process and make it more engaging for the user. Filters and tags helped users quickly sort through dogs. We also combined the adoption and fostering process to make it easier for the users.
Volunteer opportunities are slightly hidden on the original website since it is combined with adoption and fostering. On our redesign, we have a clear section for volunteering which helps showcase this feature.
Future developments would include developing the desktop version of the website along with redesigning the other web pages on the site.
